Square Enix has announced that Marvels’s Avengers will be officially a PS5 and Xbox Series X title
Square Enix has announced that Marvel’s Avengers is releasing on PS5 and Xbox Series X as a next-gen title. Next-gen versions of the game will be free to all those who already own a copy of the current-gen game, and all the progress carries over. Moreover, cross-gen play is also supported, meaning that next-gen and current-gen players can play together.
“Featuring extremely fast load times, boosted resolution and fidelity, improved texturing and armor destruction, ray tracing, and more – Marvel’s Avengers will look and play great on next-gen systems,” reads a press release. “The PlayStation®5 experience will be seamless and dynamic, fully utilizing the ultra-high-speed SSD, the PS5 DualSense advanced haptics, and immersive spatial audio. To fully customize their visual experience, PS5 will also provide players with their choice of Enhanced Graphics Mode or High Framerate mode.”
Square Enix says that details about the Xbox Series X version, Stadia, and PC specific features will be published later. For now, there’s a lot to be excited for in Marvel’s Avengers.
The PS5 version of Marvel’s Avengers will be coming with two modes: one for the best graphics (enhanced) and another for the smoothest framerate (enhanced).
“As gamers, we sometimes want every ounce of power put into extra graphics features to achieve the highest image quality possible. For this, Marvel’s Avengers will offer an enhanced graphics mode on PS5. At other times, we want the most fluid gameplay experience possible. For that, Marvel’s Avengers will offer a high framerate mode on PS5, which targets 60 FPS with dynamic 4K resolution,” says Crystal Dynamics Chief Technology Officer Gary Snethen in a post on PlayStation Blog.
Even more exciting than the higher textures and framerates, Snethen says, is the PS5’s new SSD, which he describes as “transformative” to next-gen gaming.
“Without any optimization work, the loading and streaming of Marvel’s Avengers improved by an order of magnitude on PS5. When optimization is complete, loading content will be nearly instant, allowing players to seamlessly jump into missions anywhere in the game world. And as Iron Man flies through content-rich levels, higher resolution textures and mesh will stream in instantly, maintaining the highest possible quality all the way to the horizon,” Snethen explains.
Snethen says the PS5 version of Marvel’s Avengers will be taking advantage of the hardware’s 3D audio and other “new platform features,” as well as the adaptive triggers of the DualSense pads.
Marvel’s Avengers will be launching on PS4 September 4th, 2020, and will also be available on PS5 when the next-gen console releases this Holiday season.
